Town Meeting moderator offers view on 2010 session
      Using her 14 years as Town Meeting moderator as guidance, Sarah Alger is guessing that the biggest item on the 2010 slate will be Article 68 to regulate fertilizer use on Nantucket. She has a few other opinions, as well, but her estimation of how many nights residents will sit through during this upcoming session is something that cannot be calculated with surety.

Memorial for man lost at sea

Ten chosen finalists for Nantucket Scholar
      Ten Nantucket High School seniors were selected recently as finalists for the Nantucket Golf Club Scholarship. Ashley Clinger, Henry Toole, Kate Godleskey, Shea Fee, William Lendway, Caroline Stanton, James Rhodes, Leah Blount, Taylor Thayer and William Trott Jr. were selected from a field of 20 candidates.

Five run for two seats on Board of Selectmen
      The Annual Town Election is Tuesday, April 13. This year there are several races, including five candidates for two seats on the Board of Selectmen. Two of the candidates, Allen Reinhard and Patty Roggeveen, are incumbents and one candidate, Whitey Willauer has served previously as a selectman. New to the race this year are candidates Carol Dunton and Clifford Williams.

Shellfish Management Plan hatched
      The Marine & Coastal Resources Department and the Harbor & Shellfish Advisory Board both manage the island’s shellfish nursery and the two groups are aided by the Nantucket Shellfish Association. Yet, there is no manual when it comes to enhancing the health of the island’s shellfi sh other than the general mantra of “the more shellfish the better.”

Rental Assistance Program Matching Grant
      The Community Foundation for Nantucket is pleased to announce a dollar-for-dollar match to raise $5,000 for the Interfaith Council’s Rental Assistance Program. For the month of April, every donation through the Community Foundation to the Rental Assistance Program will be doubled by a generous donor up to $2,500.
